Have You Missed Me: DJ Ron Update – Friday, August 7th

Have you missed me?

Chicago Life

This move has been quite an incredible life change. While I knew some people up here and have DJed at Roscoe’s a few times, the past two months have motivated me to go out and explore new things.  I’ve been going to comedy shows, live bands (Great Good Fine OK and Penguin Prison were particularly incredible), checking out DJs at different clubs (who knew that Little Boots could so turn it out), and going to unique drag performances (Ginger Minj doing her full-on Broadway show ‘Crossdresser for Christ’ and Alaska performing her entire album live).  I’ve been reconnecting with old friends (it’s incredible how many Nashvillians have made the pilgrimage up here) and making many new ones.  The incredible restaurant scene has definitely forced me to back to the gym and start working out again.

I realize that I’ve let my website fall behind and my podcasts aren’t up to date. I am working on catching up both of those and aim to have everything back online in the next two weeks.  My weekly sets air on Nexus, WRFN, Interference, DanceMixUSA, and  MixWhore.  For a taste of more progressive beats, you can listen to ClubPlanet Radio which posts every Monday here.
Let’s Kickstart WXNA
From the ashes of WRVU, a humble crew of radio lovers came together to bring a new voice to community radio to Nashville.  The group secured a construction permit from the FCC and will soon be broadcasting at 101.5 FM from downtown Nashville.  With the motto, “Low Power, High Voltage Radio,” the station launched a Kickstarter campaign this week and I strongly urge you to check it out here. The humorous video tells the story much better that I can.   If you were a fan of WRVU or just looking for something different to listen to while you drive around town, support WXNA.  There is a reason why Nashville is the Music City.

This Weekend

So tonight kicks off Northhalsted Market Days here in Chicago,  The street festival is similar to Pride, but just a bit bigger.  The artist lineup is incredible with a unique variety of acts – classics (Salt n Pepa, All 4 One), buzzing indie  (Xelle, Bright Light Bright Light), YouTube celebrities (Jack & Jack), clubland favorites (Thea Austin, Frenchie Davis,  Erika Jayne, Sandy B), quirky pop  (Bonnie McKee, Melanie Marinez), and, of course, Aaron Carter.  I am so excited to be spinning the launch party tonight at Roscoe’s, VideoTron presented by Nexus.  What a way to kick off the weekend!

Off to Atlantic City

Speaking of incredible artists, I gasped when I saw the lineup for Summer Sessions.  Rita Ora, Matthew Koma, Duke Dumont, Timbaland, Cash Cash, Markus Schulz, Icona Pop, Audien, and Five Knives are just some of the artists and DJs who will be performing in Atlantic City next week.  I am quite excited to see Miss Liz perform “When I Rule the World” (see writeup here).  That addictive electropop jam has been stuck in my head for the longest time.   Many kudos to Cary Vance and the crew at Promo Only promotions for putting together such a great conference.  Watch out for pictures and videos on my Facebook, instagram, and twitter over the next week.

As always, I want to thank you for your support – it means more than you can imagine.
