My Big Announcement: DJ Ron Update – Friday, April 24th

I’ve been teasing this for a while, but I wanted to let you know that I am…
Moving to Chicago

If you told me when I moved to Nashville to go to Vanderbilt University that I would live here until I was 40, I wouldn’t have believed you.  Moving from Orlando, Nashville felt like another world.  It was rough at first, but through the McGill dorm and WRVU, I found my way and eventually became entrenched in clubland (Zone, eXceSs, Tribe, Connection, Play).

I love Nashville and it will forever be my home, but the urge has come to mix things up and reboot my life. I’ve never lived in a big urban city, a high rise apartment, etc.  There are so many life experiences which I haven’t had. Let’s face it, I am 41 – if I don’t do it now, I never will. And every time I visit and spin in Chicago, it just feels right.

This isn’t a goodbye but more of a see you again soon. My official move date is June 7th.  I will be back for Pride, special events, and monthly regular spots at Play. I will still be doing shows for WRFN 107.1/103.7 and WXNA (when it launches). I will keep doing weekly eMail updates, writing for ClubPlanet, and doing even more with Nexus Radio.

2014 was a big year of change for me.  2015 is going to be a year of growth and movement. I would love for you to continue with me on the journey. (Picture of me taken at Roscoe’s in Chicago.  Picture with (We Are) Nexus – who are from Chicago – taken at Play Dance Bar.)
Speaking of Pride

Have you seen the lineup for the Pride festival?  Cazwell.  The Veronicas. Mya.   St. Lucia. Chad Michaels. Obsinity. Jaidyn Dior Fierce.  QDP.  DJ Remedy.  DJ Lady B. Me.  June 26th and 27th in Public Square Park.  Make plans to be there.  You will not want to miss this extravaganza.

This Weekend
Bounce bounce bounce is my theme for the weekend.  I am spinning Play on Friday, Talbott Street in Indy on Saturday, and Play again on Sunday. Tonight (Friday) at Play is all about the P – Perfect Pitch (Nashville Grizzlies Benefit Drag Show) and Pearl (the Hi-NRG performer from this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race). My name starts with an R – but that’s still kinda close to a P <grin>.  Dance with me all night long for a fun mix of current club anthems, remixed pop, and fun classics.   See you on the dancefloor at Play on Friday and Sunday!

Saturday night I am off to Indianapolis for the first of two Saturdays in a row. I know I say it all the time, but I love playing at Talbot Street.  My longest-ever guest residency, I’ve been playing there monthly since December 2012 and I have to say that every night is party full of pure energy.  Those Indy boys and girls sure know how to have fun!

Am I Funny?
Early Wednesday morning, I woke up from a dream that where I was doing stand up comedy.  I ran to my computer and typed out everything I could remember.  I sent it to my good friend (and esteemed comedienne) Jessica Carter and she encouraged me to try an open mic.  So Tuesday night, I am making my stand up comedy debut at Spanky’s (330 Welch Road.) Actually, one reason why I want to live in Chicago is to take improv classes and work on my MC skills.  I never imagined doing standup but who knows, it’s worth a shot, right?

As always, I want to thank you for your support – it means more than you can imagine.
