WELCOME TO SPRING: RONS UPDATE – March 11th

Welcome to Spring..

More to Share
Last time I teased you with a special treat and it’s now ready to go.  As part of Nexus TV, I will be doing monthly video mixsets.  The songs will be chosen from the station’s playlist, with the videos mixed together like I do in live sets. I am so excited to be part of an online portal where I can showcase these mixed sets.  Check out the February set and let me know what you think.  Watch out for a new March set coming soon!

Speaking of online sets, I’ve added hearthis.at to my repertoire.  So if you want to hear two fresh new music sets each week (RONS and UNLEASHED,) you can subscribe on iTunes, Podomatic, Mixcloud, and hearthis.at.  Of course, stay away from Soundcloud, because that site is evil.
MARCH – Different City Every Weekend
For the first time in my life, I am spinning a different city every weekend.  I started the month at Talbott Street in Indianapolis where the crowd was phenomenal.  Hearing the crowd sing along (with me) to Pep & Rash’s new version of “Love the One You’re With” is a moment that I will never forget.  This weekend, I am playing in Chicago (multiple venues on the same night – read more below). Next Saturday, after enjoying the first part of Miami Music Week, I am heading up to Connecticut for the True Colors event.  One of the highlights of my year is always spinning the conference for LGBTQIA youth aged 11-17.  Could you imagine dancing with a same-sex partner when you were in high school?  To be part of such a great event is such an amazing honor.  From Connecticut, I fly back to Miami and I will spin the last weekend at Hunter’s in Fort Lauderdale.  I can honestly say that I am living my dream and am thankful to everyone reading this for supporting me!

Spreading My Wings in Chi-Town
In the last update, I mentioned my crazy weekend, spinning three gigs in three nights.  Well, this weekend I am spinning four gigs in three nights and I am sure that I will be ready for a vacation afterwards.  I start off on Friday at Mary’s Attic right above Hamburger Mary’s.   When I made my debut last month, I didn’t know what to expect.  Even though it’s the attic, it feels more like a basement, as in the hangout space where all your friends come over and hang out.  I did my best to read the crowd but it ended being a lot of fun and random requests for ’80s New Wave, ’90s diva house, ’00s indie dance, and current club stuff.  There always seems to be that one guy who wants to, as Tamar Braxton says on The Real, “TRY IT.”  That basically means challenge me to see if I have a certain song. That guy was there and kept saying stuff like “this is really new, so you probably don’t have it” or “you’ve probably never heard of this.”  He obviously didn’t know who he was messing with.  After a bunch of requests, I think he finally realized that he couldn’t stump me and on the way out he tipped me a $20 and smiled.   That’s my goal here in Chicago, bring the RONS personality and win over new people.

On Saturday, I am pulling a double and it is actually pretty incredible.  People in Chicago like to party and drink, a lot.  I am not saying in excess, just that this is the first time I’ve seen a club event starting at 9AM!  Bash Events is inviting people to “The Original… You Can’t Drink All Day If You Don’t Start in the Mornin’’  So, yes, Roscoe’s is opening at 9am.  My good friend VJ Bobby Marley has a marathon shift, starting at 10am and going until 7pm with Riley York closing out the night.  On the dance floor, the beloved DJ Kevy is starting at 3 and I follow, spinning from 6pm-9pm.  Following me is the incredible DJ Mikey P followed by… wait for it… LEE DAGGER of Bimbo Jones.  If there is any DJ that bring jovial energy to the dance floor, it is Lee.   Yes, Roscoe’s is going to be a bit crazy.

After I spin at Roscoe’s, I am heading down to SoFo Tap to keep the insane St Patrick’s Day vibes going.  I am going to be spinning until 4AM – wow.  Actually, I think it’s a time change, but still its going to be a massive set.  SoFo Tap is what you would call a mens/bear bar.  I’ve never spun for this kind of crowd before but they seem to have quickly embraced me as one of their own.  I guess I do have some bearish qualities.  I will be mixing music video and look forward to seeing you at SoFo Tap.

Sunday night, I will be closing the weekend at my home club, Roscoe’s, in the front room. In Nashville terms, I guess you would describe the front room as Tribe and the back dance floor as Play.  Though, I am consistently impressed with the music that people request.  They are just as up to date as I strive to be.  People have been requesting Youth by Troye Sivan since before Thanksgiving.  I can’t imagine a club crowd that is as obsessed with Years & Years and Jess Glynne as they are with Beyonce and Britney.  It feels like the best of both worlds.  Sunday night will be a great closure for the weekend and a nice way to say farewell to Chicago for a few weeks as I will be…

Miami Bound
The scheduling of SxSW and Ultra Music Festival caused Miami Music Week and Winter Music Conference to take up two separate weeks.  The week before Ultra is Miami Music Week and that seems to be when all the Europeans are partying – with Spinnin, Armada, and Protocol all having major events.  I can already tell that my throat is going to be hoarse with all the interviews that i have scheduled.  Rather than going to Ultra on Saturday and Sunday, I am heading up to Connecticut for True Colors and will be back in town on Monday for Winter Music Conference.  One of my favorite events of the year is always Barbara Tucker’s ‘Let the Singer Be Heard,’ where every house diva you love lets you have it on that stage.  Y’all know that I love a lady who can SANG (notice that it is with an A not an I, there’s a difference).  You will definite see me front row for that. NEXUS Takes Over Miami
If you are in Miami next week, please RSVP for the Nexus Radio party on Saturday the 19th at the Catalina.  Live performances by KRISTINE W, JES, and Terri B – wow, three of my favorite singers on the same stage.  You will also get to experience brand new artists like Rilan, Karine Hannah, DJ Omi, Radio Smash, and FourEver1.  Spinning the tunes will be Sted-E and Hybrid Heights, Ron Reeser, and DJ Feenix.  Go to NexusRadio.Fm and RSVP!

As always, I want to thank you for your support – it means more than you can imagine.
